Here you will find a wealth of information about this foundation established by US-based alumni of the UERMMMC College of Medicine in the Philippines. We have organized this site into sections that will guide you through various aspects of our organization and its charitable work.
We update this website once a year but upload our online newsletter Aesculapius Ex as often as necessary to provide you with the latest information.
It is our hope that at the end of your visit, you will become a faithful partner, a generous supporter, and be proud as we are to be benefactors of quality medical education that produces highly competent, ethical and very compassionate physicians.
Thank you and come again! We welcome your comments and feedback.
Typhoon Ondoy has caused a tremendous deluge in our country leaving thousands of Filipinos homeless. Four more Typhoons hit our country, particularly Luzon, in a span of five weeks causing catastrophic damages along its trail. These events did not spare the UERMMMMC and the Hospital. The structural damages of the hospital allowed it not to service indigent patients for a while due to the closure of the OPD, ER and several outreach clinics. On behalf of the UERM Alumni Foundation of the USA, Inc., I appeal to all of you to extend your monetary assistance or whatever resources you have to support the ongoing UERM Disaster Relief Fund. This is the time that we can make ourselves relevant to the lives of those who are in pain and are suffering. Help us to bring back hope in their time of need and their utter sense of loss of reliance. You may send your contribution to:

I am truly humbled for the mandate of the Board of Trustees for electing me Chairman of AFUSA. I am looking forward with much enthusiasm and optimism in surmounting the challenges in front of us and I hope we can accomplish the objectives and projects that will enhance the welfare of both organizations and most of all our Alma Mater. My aim is to pursue the need to promote unity, solidarity, and shared visions among ourselves. We need leaders in AFUSA and not just members. I therefore challenge each of us to strive for and articulate our mission so that we can have a focus that is greater than our selves.
Furthermore, I would also like to express, with all sincerity, my heartfelt commendation to our outgoing Chairman Benjie Rigor and Past President Conrad Miranda for their dedication, loyalty, commitment and devotion, I tip off my hat to both of them. And the rest of you, the old vanguards of the Foundation for being the pillars that help strengthen and support in the realization of our Alumni Foundations commitment to its mission. I also welcome the new members of the Board of Trustees. I do not expect less of your anticipated willingness, leadership, dedication and devotion to this organization that you desire to voluntarily serve. Together we will play our certain roles, discover new ways and communicate a vision for a much needed financial growth to assist our dear old UERMMMC.
From time to time, I look back and envisioned the faces of our yesterdays leaders. These special alumni who put aside time in their busy medical practice schedules to lead the Foundation where we are now. They formed a link with us through their words and actions. A link that will support, encircle and strengthen us, as we face the challenges of today no less difficult than the challenges of yesterday.
Lastly, I would like to leave some thoughts for you to ponder, “Service is the lifeblood of any organization. Everything flows from it and is nourished by it. And never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Rene D. Querubin
Chairman
![]() In our effort "to give something back" to our Alma Mater (UERMMMC, College of Medicine) through financial assistance, our foundation recognizes the outstanding and dedicated service provided by one of the distinguished alumni of our school, Wilmer G. Heceta, M.D. The 333 Fund is now the Dr. Wilmer Heceta Endowment Fund. Read more.
Dear Fellow Alumni, Volunteers, Classmates and Friends of Dr. Wilmer Heceta:
Dr. Heceta belongs to the pioneer class of 1961. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Wilmer is now a retired general and thoracic surgeon in West Virginia. Wilmer, with his classmate and wife, Estherbelle, spent 12 important years of his life expounding worthy causes of the Medical Center (as well as its needs) as Chairman and Trustee of the Foundation. I, personally, consider him an "unsung hero" because he was undeterred by 'minor distractions' such as apathy of some alumni and continued to appeal for donations and assistance to our Alma Mater. He was an untiring volunteer donating, not only his time but, his money as well. As Trustee and Chairman of the Foundation, he was not reimbursed for his per diem and travel expenses to meetings. Dr. Heceta created and introduced the "333 Fund" of the Foundation years ago. His concept was that any individual or entity may provide or donate $333 every year for 3 years to complete a $1,000 donation. Some of his classmates and friends, of course, provided the lump sum donation of $1,000 and continued to contribute in the following years. The "333 Fund" is an endowment; so, the investment-proceeds or the earned-interests are used to pay some of the multiple projects of the Medical Center such as student scholarships and financial aids and faculty development and enhancement programs. The Foundation is cognizant of Dr. Wilmer G. Heceta's dedication and love for our Alma Mater. To honor him, the Board of Trustees of Alumni Foundation USA, Inc. voted to name the "333 Fund" the "Dr. Wilmer G. Heceta 333 Endowment Fund". Let us continue to recognize his dedication by contributing to this particular fund. We should not only donate $333 for 3 years but, continue on for many years to come. The Foundation greatly appreciates your tax-deductible donation to "Dr. Wilmer G. Heceta 333 Endowment Fund" payable to UERMMMC Alumni Foundation USA, Inc. Donate now. You can help our Medical Center maintain her mission of providing excellence in medical
education and clinical training through your grateful hearts and generous contributions. God Bless! |
